T-minus 4 hours until we leave to meet up with our friends to head out on our road trip! Wooo-hooo!
Since everybody else is working today, I have been busy making dinner for tonight and yummy treats to take on the road.
When packing for a road trip, here are some healthy and easy take-a-long snacks that are great for the car and the remainder of your vacation.
- Individual applesauce cups, yogurt or cottage cheese (don’t forget disposable spoons!)
- Yogurt covered fruit snacks
- Low-fat mozzarella cheese sticks (string cheese)
- Homemade muffins with lots of nutritious add-ins: ours include pineapple, carrots, pecans and dried cherries (recipe coming Thursday)
- Roasted, No Salt Almonds – protein and potassium in one!
- Graham Crackers with individual packets of peanut butter
- Granola or protein bars
- Fresh fruit
- Wheat Thins or Triscuits – lots of whole grains and easy to eat.
- Low-fat popcorn – great source of fiber. Pop a few bags before heading out or just take with and pop when you get to you destination
- Carrot Sticks – hello vitamin A!
- Veggie Salsa with Baked Chips – a great way to get an extra serving of vegetables.
- Water, water and more water!
